Writing Log | Week 10
Day 1 — Sunday
Word count check-in: 91,768! We’ve come a long way since my book was nearly double this size back in 2021 (oof).
I’m not setting a strict goal for this week, but I think over the next two weeks I want to finish up Act I. I’ve got about 4 chapters left, so depending on how busy work is this week I may be able to tackle all of it.
Finished up Chapter 7 while my son napped this afternoon. Three more to go in Act I!
Day 2 — Monday
Working on Chapter 8 with a few free minutes before my work day begins!
I got about halfway through, and I’m already itching to finish this chapter up when the work day is over.
Writing before bed again and I just realized Scrivener has some designed display themes?! I just switched to “A Midsummer Night” and I love it!
All wrapped up with Chapter 8. Tomorrow, onto Chapter 9!
Day 3 — Tuesday
Evening writing once again. Chapter 9 needs some brand-new scenes that I’m not in the mood to work on tonight, so instead I’m reviewing Chapter 11 — which is currently a very bloated 3,682 words. Time to grit my teeth and pare down!
I was able to get Chapter 11 down to 2,982 words. Now my overall word count is at 90,765 and I have just one chapter remaining in Act I. It feels exhilarating to make this much progress after so much slow-going.
Day 4 — Wednesday
Snuck in a bit of writing before my workday! Chapter 9 is the last one left to edit in Act I. This is more of a setup chapter where side-characters finally take up more real estate, and I want to put more thought into their dialogue and description.
I’m feeling a little lost in this chapter since it’s supposed to set up a subplot but I don’t have my notes with me… guess that’s it for today!
Day 5 — Thursday
I found my notebook with all my edit notes! Read through it today and… I have more work to do than I remembered. Act I is not as close to complete as I thought. Ah well. I might skip ahead to some scenes to cut further on in the book to keep up momentum before sitting down to plan those additional edits.
Didn’t write the rest of the week – travel time!
