Writing Log | Week 11
Technically I skipped a few weeks due to work, travel, life in general…. and truthfully, I realized I needed to work in some edits I forgot about to part I, which absolutely killed my momentum. But we’re just going to keep calling this one Week 11!
Day 1 — Sunday
After a few weeks “off” (or “avoiding admitting I need to revisit several chapters I thought I’d finished”) I’m back in the swing of things thanks to Notion.
I jotted down all of my edit notes that were in a small, easy-to-forget notebook. Now they live in a pretty Notion board as easily readable cards I can reference at the drop of a hat. Feels like a win!
I’ll dedicate more time this week to mapping out my edits so that I don’t lose momentum like this again.
Day 2 — Monday
Edit planning is off to a strong start. I have about 10 edit “cards” in my Notion board and I planned out the edits for one this morning.
I also made progress fleshing out the details for another one. I’m having fun again, which feels so good! Editing CAN be joyful even though it’s hard work.
Day 3 — Tuesday
Took today off!
Day 4 — Wednesday
A bit of late-night edit planning before heading to bed. I can feel the story getting richer — proof that slow story building is still effective!
I need to figure out how to turn my Notion display onto night mode.
Day 5 — Thursday
Did a bit more night time edit planning today. Many comments making their way from Notion cards to Scrivener comments. I love drafting in a good old Google doc, but edits at this level require some actual software.
Day 6 — Friday
More of the same. About to travel, so I’m enjoying my regular desk setup while I have it!
Day 7— Saturday
Travel day! Only sitting down to do a bit of edit planning just before bed. Instead of doing real “work,” I’m tacking stock of my progress so far this week. I’ve mapped out the smaller edits needed…
…But I have two larger arcs that will require more extensive planning. They’re not story-changing edits, but rather some crucial world-building (or “conflict-clarifying”) edits that I can’t just go into my Scrivener chapters and make quick notes about.
One of these edits has to do with the antagonists’ motivations, and the other has to do with the male POV’s backstory, which ties directly into the antagonists’ aims. I’m going to see if I can just have a sort of sticky note up on my Scrievener screen at all times for both of these edits. If I nail these, this edit will truly be the edit.
