Writing Log | Week 15
Day 1 — Sunday
Goal for the week: continue editing Part I. I’ll be starting Chapter 4 today, and I think that I can get through 3-4 chapters this week. Maybe more, who knows? There are 9 chapters left for me to edit in this first section, so it’s not too crazy to think I could tackle all that this week. Part I doesn’t require too much adjusting since I’ve already given it a once-over earlier this summer.
My son just went down for a much needed afternoon nap, I put on my coziest sweats, lit a candle, poured a fresh cup of coffee since I never finished my first cup this morning, and snuggled up in bed to work. The vibe for this Sunday is LAZY and CHILL. I don’t feel like being Type A today.
I’ve also got my Manuscript Mood playlist on and I just love it.
Chapter 4 has some dialogue I’m happy with, including these lines:
“I don’t think fate can fix what happened to me.”
“I’ve found that fate will strike a bargain.”
Day 2 — Monday
Morning nap writing time! Up for today: Chapter 5.
The vibe is SET. It’s raining gently outside, I have a candle lit and a fresh cup of coffee, and I’m snuggled up in an armchair with some piano music on (the “Calm Vibes” Spotify playlist is one of my favorites to listen to in the morning — so good!).
These early chapters are crucial to developing the reader’s sense of the world’s magic system. I added this bit in my last edit that I rather like:
People liked to believe that magic left traces. That it had a mark, or a scent, or a sound that revealed its presence. But magic was like the wind: you could only see its affects, never its source.
This chapter has always ended the same way, and I’ve only slightly edited it throughout my many drafts:
I did what I hadn’t done the last time someone had requested such a story. I told her the truth.
Most of it.
Just wrapped up Chapter 5 and my son is still napping, so I’m going to get to some non-writing things with my time!
Day 3 — Tuesday
Started my read-through of Chapter 6, but it’s late — I’ll wrap it up tomorrow!
Skipped Wednesday through Friday – the week got busy!
Day 7 — Saturday
Looks like I’m hitting the bare minimum of my goal for the week: finishing up Chapter 6 this morning. Progress is progress, especially during a busy week.
I was able to tie in a key bit of updated world-building into this chapter. Big win!
I love this chapter. It’s one of my all-time favorites, where our two POV characters realize they share a critical emotional story. Of all the chapters in this book, I hope this one resonates with my readers.
