Writing Log | Week 17
Day 1 — Sunday
Goal for the week: finish Act I and begin Act II.
I just finished polishing off Chapter 10 during my son’s morning nap. I think I’ll be able to tackle 11 & 12 fairly quickly early this week, and then I can dive into Act II later this week, which starts with Chapter 13.
Day 2 — Monday
Getting a bit of writing done before work and I’m fully in the zone thanks to one of my favorite writing playlists.
Working on a staircase dress moment in Chapter 11! Scenes like this are some of my favorites to read, so I had to include one in my book. Lines like this:
She was a vision against the staircase, a streak of midnight blue seared like ash under a mantle, her hair a sleek flame that illuminated her face, pale and perfectly unadorned.
Chapter 11 is a bit bloated, so I want to cut back where I can, if possible. But this chapter is responsible for a lot of emotional heavylifting, so we’ll see.
Putting a thought here for later: I considered removing one character in this draft, but I’m rethinking things. I think keeping her in adds a nice layer of depth and tension to the MMC’s storyline and I’m a little loath to remove it… TBD.
Day 3 — Tuesday
Finishing up Chapter 11 this evening. Not too much to change, but I do need to sow in a few small edits.
Now, onto Chapter 12 and the end of Act 1!
It didn’t take too long to wrap up — Chapter 12 ends on quite the high note, and I only had a few details to add.
Day 4 — Wednesday
Taking it easy tonight and just skimming through Chapter 13 / reviewing the broader arc of Act II.
Act II is 10 chapters long. I’m quite proud of 3 in particular, and then the remaining 7 either need lots of work or an annoying amount of minor changes. I’ve got my work cut out for me, so I also want to brainstorm ways to make this more fun.
Day 5 — Thursday
Taking it easy today and continuing to review Act II.
Didn’t write for the rest of the week — had a beach weekend with family!
