7 Things I Learned About Reading in 2022

I’ve always loved reading, but I’ve never loved it quite like I do now. I used to have a set, somewhat inflexible idea of the types of books I liked. Thanks in part to Bookstagram, I’ve opened up and learned that…

  1. Second chance romance and friends-to-lovers storylines can capture my heart, even though I’ve always been an enemies-to-lovers fan.

  2. Reading memoirs written by people around the world and across different times and cultures is essential, eye-opening, and the closest I can get to walking a mile in someone else’s shoes.

  3. Slow, contemplative character studies fill up my cup.

  4. I can have a casual relationship with the classics. I can read them for enjoyment rather than for a grade.

  5. There’s a seasonality to my reading. Cold weather calls for twisty fantasies and historical romances, warm weather for contemporary fiction and rom coms…. But memoirs and magic are still all-year-round reads for me.

  6. I don’t need to be afraid of books about loss and suffering — in fact, those might be some of the most valuable reads of all.

  7. Last but certainly not least, I’ve learned that reading with friends is pure joy. Here’s to another year of buddy reads and new book discoveries!

What’s something new that you learned about reading this year?
