Shadow & Bone: Season 2 Review
Happy Sunday! Who else is watching Season 2 of Shadow and Bone? I finished it yesterday and I have allll the thoughts about it….
⚠️ spoilers below ⚠️
THE CROWS
— I was NOT prepared for Kaz’s backstory showing up so early! While I’m curious about what future seasons will hold for Kaz, I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get more buildup. That said…
— Freddy Carter was phenomenal. He BECAME Kaz this season and I’m so glad the show decided to give us more of the Crows.
— Wylan is perfect and he can literally do no wrong.
— Truly all of the crows are just so well cast. Jesper’s scenes with his mother were so tender. Nina is an absolute joy. We need more Matthias! And Inej pushes Kaz in so many wonderful ways and I love to see it.
— However, I was upset on Inej’s behalf that Tante Heleen just… went away. I wanted Inej’s Ice Court moment of triumph. I really hope future seasons can show us more of her story. Justice for Inej!!!
RAVKA & THE GRISHA
— My heart totally broke for Genya. The scene between her and David in the tunnels was just 🥺
— I really couldn’t take the Darkling’s grisha henchmen seriously
— Honestly, I was a let down by Alina and the Darkling this season. I feel like it all ended with a whimper and not with a bang.
— Loved seeing more of Zoya and I am SO hopeful we’ll get into the King of Scars plot lines next season
— Speaking of… NIKOLAI. The charm. The charisma. The drive. Absolutely obsessed.
— Tolya and Tamar made me smile! They brought a great energy to the screen
After finishing this season, I went and read a bunch of critic reviews (I always find them interesting), and many of them said what I’d been feeling: I can’t help but want to skip through the Grisha/Ravka scenes so I can see the Crows/Ketterdam scenes. But thanks to the characters like Nikolai, Zoya, Genya, Tolya, and Tamar, I found myself more engaged with the Ravka plotlines this season!
Grishaverse friends, how do you feel about this season??
