How I Make Space for Writing When Time is Scarce
Making space for writing (and reading, too!) is often easier said than done, but then when it’s done…. it’s wonderful.
The main way I’ve been making time for creative pursuits these days is adopting a “5 minutes is better than 0 minutes” mentality. It’s often mental hurdle to think, “I need to edit X number of chapters today,” or “I really just want to curl up on the couch and read half of a book today.”
The reality is, in this season of life I just don’t have that kind of time, but doing a little bit of writing or flipping through even a few pages of my current read does wonders for my energy and my mood.
And guess what? This helps me find more pockets of time throughout the day. I’ve been reading and writing more than I THINK I have time to, because I give myself those tiny respites throughout the day.
Are they as satisfying as the hour-long deep dives into my manuscript or my current read? Not always. But they certainly make me happy nonetheless!
